For as long as I can remember myself, I was the first to volunteer when a task came up not related to my direct responsibilities. This always allowed me to learn new things, gain new skills. I would always be open - I don't know how to do it, but if you help, I will manage - and this has gotten me some on hands experience which later on turned out to be helpful when moving on the ladder in my career. I learnt a lot of things by doing - the public speaking, people management, stakeholder management, analytics, project management, and conflict management in a team - yes, yes and one more time yes. I mentor my colleagues on ad hoc basis, when they have an issue, a topic or a questions, we sit down for a chat and make up a plan on how to move forward.
